El deporte sigue en Nicaragua como si no existiera la pandemia del coronavirus

Los torneos deportivos no paran en Nicaragua: un día hay partidos de fútbol profesional, otro día se juega béisbol, se corre una carrera de ciclismo o se disputa una pelea de boxeo, como si no existiera la pandemia del nuevo coronavirus.

Unos deportistas participan convencidos de que Nicaragua, uno de los países más pobres del hemisferio, tiene la pandemia «bajo control», con menos de una docena de casos reportados por las autoridades; otros por amor al deporte o por miedo a perder sus contratos por abandono laboral.

«Creo que uno corre peligro por las circunstancias que está pasando en todo el mundo», pero «hay un contrato de trabajo que se tiene que respetar», afirma a la AFP el futbolista del club Las Sabanas de primera división, José Martínez, al concluir sudoroso un duelo en Managua.

El presidente de Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, aseguró el miércoles pasado, en su primera aparición pública tras un mes de ausencia, que el avance de la pandemia en el país es «lento» y rehusó declarar cuarentena, cerrar fronteras o exigir el distanciamiento social como hace el resto del mundo.

Y el deporte tampoco ha parado. Esta semana se realizaron dos rallys de ciclismo y el fin de semana vuelven las peleas de boxeo, que se realizan en campos abiertos, parques o gimnasios espaciosos para tratar de evitar los contagios.

También se reactivará el campeonato nacional de béisbol, el deporte favorito de los nicaragüenses, luego que la Comisión Nicaragüense de Béisbol Superior amenazó con sancionar a quien se niegue jugar por temor al virus.

La controversia también alcanza a la liga de fútbol, la única que se mantiene activa en América Latina en medio de la pandemia, luego que la Federación Nicaragüense de Fútbol (Fenifut) aprobó continuar con los juegos debido a la ausencia de restricciones oficiales.

– ¿Todo «bajo control?» –

En Nicaragua «no tenemos ninguna alerta ni cuarentena. El Minsa (Ministerio de Salud) dice que todo está bajo control», comentó a la AFP el secretario general de la Fenifut, José Bermúdez.

Dirigentes del fútbol incluso valoraron transmitir sus juegos en Europa, donde los torneos fueron suspendidos por la pandemia que deja miles de muertos.

La Confederación de Norteamérica, Centroamérica y el Caribe de Fútbol (Concacaf) también congeló el calendario hasta junio, pero ha respetado la decisión de la liga de Nicaragua de jugar «mientras la situación» lo permita, según Bermúdez.

Con la garantía de que todo está bien, los jugadores del Managua FC salieron animados a la cancha el pasado miércoles a enfrentar al Jalapa a puertas cerradas para evitar la aglomeración de aficionados en las gradas.

En Nicaragua «la situación está controlada» y se juega «tomando las precauciones necesarias al momento de salir al estadio», afirmó uno de los goleadores del torneo, el delantero mexicano Carlos Félix, del Managua FC.

Mientras que el ariete español Pablo Gallego, quien llegó hace dos años de Grecia, asegura que ningún jugador nicaragüense ha presentado síntomas del virus.

Se lavan las manos antes del partido, usan alcohol con gel en las pausas y prescinden saludar con las manos a los árbitros y contrincantes.

– Opiniones encontradas –

Al terminar el juego, se colocan tapabocas y regresan a sus casas en buses, taxis o vehículos propios.

Pero no todos están conformes. Al defensa Nasser Valverde, del club Walter Ferreti, le preocupa contraer el virus y contagiar a su hijo y abuelos.

«Me siento un poco triste por la situación, todas las ligas están paradas y aquí seguimos. Gracias a Dios no se ha dicho que hay más casos, eso nos tiene un poco tranquilos», confiesa Valverde a la AFP.

Mientras que para el delantero Daniel Reyes «a veces es un poco preocupante por la situación que vive el mundo, pero confiamos en Dios que en nuestro país (la epidemia) sea menos grave».

El epidemiólogo Leonel Argüello advirtió, sin embargo, que todos los deportes implican «una interacción humana de menos de un metro de distancia», contrario a lo recomendado por la OMS y pidió al Minsa que al menos le realicen la prueba del virus a los jugadores.

A juicio del opositor Eliseo Núñez, el presidente Ortega «ha priorizado la economía en lugar de la salud, porque cree que si la pandemia pega duro en Nicaragua, la comunidad internacional suspenderá las sanciones» financieras que le impuso por violar los derechos humanos durante las protestas antigubernamentales de 2018.

Las protestas iniciadas en abril de ese año desataron una ola de represión que dejó al menos 328 muertos y forzó a más de 100.000 personas al exilio, según organismos humanitarios.
