Miguel Ángel López fue notificado por la UCI sobre su nuevo tiempo suspensión tras la investigación en su contra por dopaje durante el Giro de Italia 2022. El colombiano salió del Astana tras la investigación de la Agencia Antidopaje por la ‘Operación IIlex’ y se esperaba por una decisión para ver si volvería a cmpetir o no.
Tras unirse al Team Medellín y competir en algunas carreras durante 2023, el boyacense dejó la escuadra paisa. López decidió terminar su paso por el equipo colombiano tras el anuncio de la UCI de suspenderlo indefinidamente.
Después de diferentes versiones, el nacido en Pesca solo esperaba por un comunicado oficial sobre su caso. Desde Europa se hablaba que no existían pruebas en contra del colombiano, más allá de su relación personal con Marcos Maynar, médico involucrado en el escándalo de dopaje. Pero finalmente este miércoles se reveló la dura decisión.
Sin embargo, aunque el cafetero se había hecho diferentes pruebas y ninguna ha dado positivo en las últimas horas, la UCI afirma que el cafetero tuvo una ingesta de HGM-Lepori 75 IU, medicamento fabricado a base de Menotropina, que sirve para mejorar las capacidades físicas. Dicho consumo se hizo en el marco del Giro 2022, en Hungría.
Ante esto, el organismo emitió un extenso comunicado confirmando los 4 años de sanción para el pedalista cafetero, sumando las alternativas de apelación. El ciclista podrá acudir al TAS en el próximo mes para hacer la solicitud de revisión de la decisión.

«La Unión Ciclista Internacional (UCI) informa que el Tribunal Antidopaje de la UCI ha dictado sentencia contra el ciclista colombiano Miguel Ángel López.
El Tribunal ha declarado culpable a Miguel Ángel López de una infracción de las normas antidopaje (ADRV) por uso y posesión de una sustancia prohibida (Menotropina)*, ingesta involucrada con su desempeño en el Giro de Italia 2022, y ha impuesto al corredor una suspensión de cuatro años.
De acuerdo con el Código Mundial Antidopaje y las Reglas Antidopaje de la UCI, el período de suspensión comenzó el 25 de julio de 2023 y permanecerá en vigor hasta el 24 de julio de 2027.
Recordamos que el procedimiento disciplinario se inició tras una investigación llevada a cabo por la Agencia Internacional de Controles (ITA) a partir de pruebas obtenidas de la Guardia Civil española y del Organismo Español Antidopaje (CELAD) en la denominada Operación “Ilex” sobre Dr. Marcos Maynar. La UCI agradece esta valiosa colaboración.
Además, de acuerdo con las Reglas de Procedimiento del Tribunal, la decisión se publicará en el sitio web de la UCI. La decisión podrá ser apelada ante el Tribunal de Arbitraje Deportivo (TAS) en el plazo de un mes».
Por ahora, el colombiano no ha emitido ninguna respuesta al respecto. López se encontraba entrenando en Colombia a la espera de conocer la decisión en su caso para dar el siguiente paso en el procedimiento.
