Emmanuel Macron llegó este lunes 24 de febrero a la Casa Blanca, donde tiene lugar una reunión con su homólogo Donald Trump para debatir acerca del futuro de Ucrania y un posible acuerdo de paz entre Moscú y Kiev.
Ambos líderes compartieron sus primeras declaraciones en la Oficina Oval, a la espera de una rueda de prensa conjunta que tendrá lugar en horas de la tarde.
Macron insistió este lunes durante la reunión en la necesidad de una «paz sólida y duradera» para Ucrania,
«Nuestro objetivo común, claramente, es construir la paz, una paz sólida y duradera», afirmó Macron en declaraciones a la prensa en el Despacho Oval de la Casa Blanca.
Por su parte, Trump aseguró que su homólogo ruso, Vladimir Putin, con quien prevé encontrarse «cuando sea el momento adecuado», estaría dispuesto a aceptar la presencia de tropas europeas en Ucrania cuando el conflicto acabe. Macron también se sumó a esta idea, aunque confirmó que esos militares de países europeos no estarían «en la línea del frente».
El presidente estadounidense también habló del posible acuerdo sobre los minerales con Ucrania, que cada vez podría estar más cerca, así como una visita de Volodímir Zelenski a la Casa Blanca. Esta podría tener lugar tan pronto como la próxima semana.
«Podría venir esta semana o la próxima para firmar el acuerdo, lo cual sería bueno», dijo Trump sobre Zelenski.
