Ecopetrol inició la entrega de gasolina “premium” con estándares de calidad internacional,
como aporte a la mejora de la calidad del aire en el país, debido a que contiene un
máximo de 15 partes por millón (ppm) de azufre, frente a las 50 ppm de la gasolina extra
que se venía comercializando en el territorio nacional, en línea con la regulación actual.
La mejora en la calidad de este combustible logrará una eficiencia de los sistemas de
control de emisiones de gases contaminantes, una disminución de emisiones del 25% con
respecto a las tecnologías Euro 4, una gestión efectiva de las emisiones de material
particulado, un mejor desempeño y duración del motor de los vehículos e incentivará el
uso de carros de última tecnología.
“Este resultado hace parte del esfuerzo que ha hecho en los últimos años Ecopetrol y que
evidencia la capacidad del segmento de refinación para ajustar y optimizar sus procesos
productivos con el fin de contribuir a que los colombianos respiren un aire cada vez más
puro y tengan una mejor calidad de vida”, señaló Ricardo Roa Barragán, presidente de
Ecopetrol.
En línea con el compromiso de mitigar los efectos del cambio climático, desde diciembre
de 2022 Ecopetrol viene compensando las emisiones de carbono generadas desde el
proceso de extracción de crudo hasta la entrega de la gasolina extra a los distribuidores
mayoristas, convirtiéndose de esta manera en el primer combustible carbono compensado
que hay en el país.
A la fecha se han compensado más de 107 mil toneladas de CO2, lo que equivale a evitar
las emisiones por deforestación de aproximadamente 9 mil hectáreas de bosque de
manglar colombiano durante un periodo de 3 años.
Ecopetrol continuará desarrollando en las refinerías de Barrancabermeja y Cartagena
iniciativas tecnológicas que disminuyan el contenido azufre y permitan la mejora de
parámetros de desempeño en los combustibles, para asegurar la soberanía energética,
mantener la competitividad del país y generar los recursos para la transición energética y
la descarbonización de sus operaciones.
