‘Avispón Asesino’ comienza a dejar víctimas a su paso por EEUU

Esta especie es muy común en Japón, donde al menos 50 personas mueren al año tras ser picados por este avispón gigante. Ahora, por primera vez, llega a EE.UU., para amenazar a sus ciudadanos. 

El Gobierno de Washington, emitió un comunicado de alerta donde le dice a los ciudadanos que en caso de encontrar un nido, deben llamar a las autoridades, porque son los únicos que gracias a sus equipos especiales, pueden combatirlas.

Según Jun-ichi Takahashi, investigador de la Universidad de Kyoto Sangyo en Japón, los agresivos ataques grupales de estas abejas pueden exponer a las víctimas a dosis de veneno tóxicas equivalente a la de una serpiente venenosa. Una serie de picaduras, puede ser fatal para el humano. 

Característica del “abejón asesino”

Además de su gran tamaño, el avispón tiene un aspecto muy peculiar. Posee una cara ferozmente caricaturesca con ojos de lágrimas como Spider-Man, rayas naranjas y negras que se extienden por su cuerpo como un tigre, y alas anchas y tenues como una pequeña libélula.

Ante el avistamiento de esta especie cerca de las colmenas, los biólogos agrícolas estatales y los apicultores locales se pusieron a trabajar, preparándose para la próxima temporada. Ruthie Danielsen, una apicultora que ha ayudado a organizarse a sus compañeros para combatir el avispón, realizó un mapa con los lugares en todo el condado de Whatcom donde los apicultores han colocado trampas para eliminar la plaga.

«La mayoría de las personas tienen miedo de que las piquen», dijo Danielsen. «Tenemos miedo de que destruyan totalmente nuestras colmenas», resaltó al New York Times.

Respecto a la situación, el Departamento de Agricultura del Estado de Washington, región donde los avispones fueron detectados, intentará erradicarlos antes de que estos eliminen a las abejas o lleguen a atacar a algún humano, «Si no podemos hacerlo en los próximos años, probablemente no se pueda hacer», dijeron.
