Bandas armadas haitianas anuncian tregua humanitaria

Las principales bandas paramilitares de Haití anunciaron este domingo la entrada en vigor de una tregua para permitir el paso de ayuda humanitaria a los sobrevivientes del terremoto de hace poco más de una semana.

El anuncio llega tras días de saqueos que han impedido la entrega de la asistencia, a lo que cual se une la fuerte inseguridad en las carreteras del país, lo cual ha obligado a algunas organizaciones a transportar los víveres para los necesitados en helicópteros.

Pero mientras algunas organizaciones humanitarias tratan de llevar la ayuda a las áreas más apartadas, sobre todo en el sur del país, las bandas paramilitares interceptan y saquean a los camiones en las carreteras.

De acuerdo a informaciones trascendidas desde Haití, Jimmy Cherizier, alias “Barbecue”, líder del llamado G9 an Fanmi e Alye, la agrupación de las principales bandas delictivas del país, difundió un video en el que aseguró que acepta una tregua para que los necesitados puedan recibir la ayuda.

Aunque Cherizier es considerado un delincuente poderoso en el país, está lejos de ser el único líder de pandillas en Haití, por lo que no es posible predecir la factibilidad de la propuesta.

Los sobrevivientes han protestado y reclamado por lentitud en la entrega de ayudas, pero las organizaciones humanitarias e incluso la ayuda canalizada por el Gobierno tienen constantes desafíos. Además de los saqueos y robos, las carreteras destruidas y casi intransitables del país.

Haití, la nación más empobrecida del continente americano, enfrenta las consecuencias de la nueva tragedia cuando aún no se recuperaba del devastador sismo de 2010 y pocas semanas después del asesinato del presidente Jovenel Moïse.

Rescatistas encuentran con vida a más de 20 personas una semana después del terremoto  

Una semana después del devastador terremoto de magnitud 7.2 que se produjo en Haití, los socorristas han encontrado con vida a 24 personas que estaban desaparecidas, comunicó el servicio de Protección Civil haitiano.

El rescate tuvo lugar el 22 de agosto en la región de Pic Macaya, una montaña ubicada en el departamento de Sur, en la península de Tiburón.

Los 24 sobrevivientes, cuatro niños y 20 adultos, fueron trasladados en helicóptero a una comuna cercana para recibir tratamiento médico y asistencia alimentaria. No se detallan las circunstancias en las que se encontraban.
