De acuerdo a pronósticos emitidos por el IDEAM y agencias internacionales, la presencia del fenómeno de La Niña, continúa vigente y se extendería durante este segundo semestre del año, coincidiendo con meses de intensa lluvia: septiembre, octubre y noviembre, lo que podría generar más desastres naturales de los que históricamente se presentan.
Ante tal situación, el director de la Gestión del Riesgo en Casanare Arvey Méndez, inició una campaña de prevención y concienciación, instando a los Consejos Municipales de Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres a mantener activas las estrategias de respuesta, a tener vigentes los convenios con Bomberos, a fortalecer los fondos de gestión del riesgo y a establecer los bancos de ayudas humanitarias.
«Recordemos que el fenómeno La Niña, representa precipitaciones más fuertes de lo común y prolongación de la temporada invernal. Nos preocupa que en el Departamento las lluvias no han cesado desde el mes de abril, los ríos están en cotas altas de desbordamiento y los suelos se encuentran saturados por el porcentaje de agua recibida, lo que los hace más susceptibles a deslizamientos. Por ello, todos debemos tomar medidas preventivas, para proteger nuestros bienes y nuestras familias», señala Arvey Méndez.
Por parte del Gobierno Departamental en cabeza de Salomón Sanabria, se cuenta con maquinaria disponible para responder ante cualquier evento, con la misma, se ha venido realizando atención a puntos afectados y se iniciaron varias obras preventivas en zonas identificadas. También se cuenta con un importante stock de ayudas humanitarias, para atender los hogares que se vean impactados negativamente. Pero, lo que se busca es que entre todos se reduzcan los peligros con el fin de no tener que lamentar pérdidas materiales ni humanas.

En la Región de la Orinoquía son probables los excesos de lluvia, entre 20% a 40%, en Piedemonte de Arauca, Casanare y Meta, Suroccidente de Casanare y de Meta. Entre 20% a 30% en oriente de Meta, norte de Arauca y oriente de Vichada.
Recomendaciones:
Tener a mano las líneas de emergencias de su municipio o las líneas nacionales: línea única de emergencias 123, bomberos 119, Cruz Roja 132 y Defensa Civil 144.
Permanecer atentos a las alertas tempranas emitidas por las autoridades a través de los medios de comunicación.
Monitorear quebradas o ríos, y reportar las crecientes a los vecinos.
Realizar campañas periódicas de limpieza, con el fin de prevenir posibles taponamientos de los desagües y canales de aguas lluvias.
Hacer monitoreo y mantenimiento a las obras de mitigación del riesgo realizadas en puntos críticos, con el propósito de evitar deterioros o reactivación de estos eventos.
Revisar los techo de las viviendas o establecimientos públicos y fortalecerlos.
Monitorear continuamente las zonas de montaña, para identificar cambios en el terreno y evacuar a lugares seguros.
